Travel Diary: The send off, the proposal and the flight

26/09/2014
We have big news ... we're engaged!! So let me set the scene ... Shaun and I have been together for 10 years.  We always knew we would get married but it was not a priority and after this long I was not expecting a proposal!   We arrived at the airport with our closest friends and family waiting to say our goodbyes.  Shaun suggested a group photo which was a lovely idea.  Then Shaun announces he has letters for everyone.  He gets these envelopes out of his bag and hands them out down the line.  I was seriously confused at this point.  Then he pulls me out of the line to face everybody and asks them to open the letter and turn it around which spells out ... WILL YOU MARRY ME.....
The Proposal

The Proposal

I turn around to see Shaun down on one knee with the most beautiful ring in his hand!  Utter shock instills ... I think I said a lot of 'what, what, what' then burst into tears and jumped on Shaun.  At this point we were all crying and in complete shock! I said yes obviously! I'm over the moon, what a proposal and send off!!  Our trip has now turned into finding the perfect wedding location!!
Shortly after the proposal unfortunately we had to leave to go through to departures, but at least it wasn't as hard leaving with a massive grin on my face! We got on the flight and Grimo and Pam had arranged for us to have wine on the plane and a captains announcement congratulating us! After an hour of quizzing Shaun we landed at Gatwick and got the bus to Heathrow then on to our hotel, Holiday Inn Express T5 which was really nice for £53 a night. We arrived really late and were exhausted so we got a feast from M&S to celebrate and ate in our room.
The next day our flight to Colombo was not until 21:30 so we checked out at 12 and hung around the airport the the rest of the day until check in at 17:30.  We boarded the flight and we were not sat at a window seat much to my dismay as we were one of the first to check in!  A very long, uncomfortable flight with Sri Lankan Airlines.  There was a small screen in the back of the seat in front with a choice of a few channels but ours did not work.  Even if they had you did not know what was on or when it started.  The seats were really awful too.  A long sleepless 11 hours later we arrived at Colombo. A la perchoine The future Mr and Mrs Sawbridge! x
